In Latin America, banks are often unstable and are not protected by FDIC.  Thus the cultural fear of using banks is a part of the immigrant mentality when coming to the U.S.  This is why simply putting your standard advertising message into English is not effective.  Hispanic immigrants must be educated about the banking system in the United States to understand that their money will be safe.  Thus there is a huge untapped market of potential banking custoners in the Hispanic demographic.  In addition, Hispanics are in need of home and car loans and have historically proven to be excellent credit risks. Immigrants who do not qualify for Social Security numbers can obtain credit and open accounts with ITINs.  It is then critical that banks are familiar with how to obtain ITINS, the legalities concerning ITINS as well as marketing to customers who have ITINS.
